The Ripple Effect of Expertise

25 October 2025

In my twenties, I worked for a company that did things differently.

We trained recent graduates to become English teachers abroad. The mission was simple: help them feel confident enough to walk into a classroom on the other side of the world and make a real difference.

Most of the industry was still built around traditional four-week courses. Rigid schedules. In-person attendance. Limited reach.

But our founder had other ideas. She believed training should fit around people’s lives, not the other way around. So she introduced shorter, more flexible formats, a mix of in-person sessions and online modules that made it possible for anyone, anywhere, to learn.

I was the product lead, working closely with a team of brilliant TEFL trainers. They’d spent years teaching in classrooms from Bangkok to Buenos Aires, and each of them carried a kind of wisdom you can’t learn from a manual. My job was to take what they knew, the instincts, the judgment, the small adjustments that make a big difference, and turn it into online learning experiences that felt practical and alive.

Eventually, I started visiting schools overseas. I wanted to see how our graduates were doing. Many were teaching for the first time, thousands of miles from home.

And they were thriving.

They weren’t just getting through their lessons. They were connecting. Adapting. Growing into something bigger than they’d imagined.

For many of them, it wasn’t just a job. It was a turning point, their first experience living abroad, seeing the world through new eyes. The transformation wasn’t only professional. It was personal.

But the impact didn’t stop there.

Their students, young people learning English in places where language could open doors, were gaining something much bigger than words. New chances. New futures.

That’s when something clicked for me.

Expertise, when shaped and shared well, doesn’t stay put.

It moves.
It enables.
It multiplies.

We’d taken the lived experience of a few experts and turned it into something portable, something that could travel and continue to create value long after it left our hands.

One expert.
One course.

Hundreds of journeys that would go on to shape thousands more.

That’s the ripple effect of expertise. When it’s captured with care, it doesn’t just scale, it sets things in motion.

It’s a truth that still shapes how we build at ExpertOS today. Because when knowledge travels, it transforms everything it touches.

So maybe the question worth asking is this:

What’s the ripple effect of your work?
What have you already set in motion, and how might you help it go further?
